Things To Do: Fall

Fall In
New Meadows

As the leaves begin to change and the air turns crisp, New Meadows transforms into a breathtaking autumn wonderland.

Hunting

Fall is hunting season in Idaho, and New Meadows offers abundant opportunities for hunters. Whether you’re after elk, deer, or upland birds, you’ll find plenty of game in the surrounding forests and wilderness areas.

Scenic Drives

To many, Meadows Valley itself is a gorgeous mountain getaway. For those wishing to explore further, a number of scenic drives will expose you to even more breathtaking scenery, including majestic mountains, deep valleys carved by ancient glaciers, stunning granite rock formations and sparkling lakes and rivers. A few of our favorite routes include the 115-mile, four-hour, French Creek Scenic Drive, and the 42-mile Warren Wagon Road.

Hot Springs

Soak your cares away in the natural hot springs at Burgdorf Hot Springs (along the Warren Wagon Road). Surrounded by pristine wilderness, it’s the perfect place to relax and unwind after a day of outdoor adventures. The road to Burgdorf is snow-covered and accessible only by snowmobile in the winter, so spring/summer/fall are the ideal times for a low-key visit.

Exploring the Weiser River Trail

The longest rail trail in the United States sits just four miles northwest of New Meadows. The Weiser River Trail is an 84 mile, primarily gravel, pathway with a 2% downhill grade (when riding north to south). The wildlife-rich trail winds through pine forests on the north end and rolling hills and open canyons on the south end. The trail is most popular with bikers and backpackers, but is also open to pedestrians and horses. The trail is open year round, but snowfall on the northern end of the trail makes it impassable from winter through the spring melt off.
